For the love of red velvet & V-Day. Homemade hot chocolate is a favorite around here. Try subbing the dairy for vanilla soy or almond milk.

With Valentine’s day steadily creeping up on us I thought it would be fun to make a little festive hot chocolate treat. Behold darlings: pink hot chocolate and red velvet hot chocolate! Share one of these with your bestie or your Mr. Tis’ the season for chocolate, and pink, and appreciating the loved one’s in your life.

Red Velvet Hot Chocolate, makes 2 servings.

Needed: 4-5 cups milk, 1 cup dark chocolate chips, 2-3 drops red food coloring.

Pink Hot Chocolate, makes 2 servings.

Needed: 4-5 cups milk, 1 cup white chocolate chips, and 2 tablespoons strawberry syrup.

For each of these beverages the method is the same: in a small pot heat the milk over medium heat. Add the chocolate chips and continue to stir constantly as they melt and incorporate into the milk. Add the syrup or dye. Serve with whip cream and cozy up with someone. :) Enjoy! xo. emma and elsie

Embrace cold nights with home made Salted Carmel Hot Chocolate. Starbucks ain’t got nothing on this recipe. Mmmm… tasty!

via a beautiful mess

This Salted Caramel version really fits the bill. It will be quite rich and thick and although I just adore caramel paired with a little sea salt, if you don’t like the sweet and salty combination then just leave the salt in this recipe out.

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, makes 2 large servings.

Needed: 16 ounces milk or cream (I used a combination of 8 ounces milk and 8 ounces cream), 4 ounces dark chocolate, 4 ounces chocolate caramel (such as Hershey’s version), a pinch or two of sea salt.

In a sauce pan or small pot heat half (8 ounces) of the milk and 4 ounces chopped dark chocolate and salt until melted. Continue heating and whisk in the remaining milk and 4 ounces chopped chocolate caramel. Continue whisking until the entire mixture is warmed through and smooth in texture.

Serve with a little whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel and a sprinkle of sea salt.
